Borbelj and Szabo win Banja Luka Half Marathon

Athlete Đuro Borbelj from Sombor and Hungarian runner Tünde Szabo won the Banja Luka Half Marathon, held as part of the 9th Vivia Run&More Weekend. More than 2,000 participants ran through the streets of the largest city in Republika Srpska.

Banja Luka hosted another edition of the “Vivia Run&More Weekend” festival this weekend, gathering thousands of participants, recreational runners, families, and sports enthusiasts from across the region at the plateau in front of the Banja Luka Arena.

The central event was the half marathon race, won by Borbelj with a time of 1 hour, 8 minutes and 28 seconds.

In the women’s competition, the winner was Szabo, a multiple-time Hungarian champion and Olympic participant, who finished with a time of 1 hour, 21 minutes and 46 seconds.

“I’m very happy. It wasn’t easy running in such warm weather. The course is excellent and everything is very well organized,” Szabo said.

As part of the festival, 5-kilometer and 10-kilometer races were also held. As expected, Mlađen Samardžić from AK Marathon Brčko, the Bosnia and Herzegovina champion in the 1,500m, 5,000m and 10,000m disciplines, won the 10-kilometer race.

Throughout the weekend, participants and visitors also enjoyed entertainment programs, social gatherings, and concerts.

The event also had a humanitarian character, as part of the collected funds will be directed toward the treatment of one-year-old Sofia Dujlović.
