The central commemoration of the Day of Remembrance for the victims of genocide against Serbs, Jews and Roma in the NDH was held yesterday in Donja Gradina. Russian broadcaster NTV Russia also produced a report and feature on the event.
It was emphasized that there is a duty to preserve the truth about Jasenovac concentration camp atrocities without minimization, because a people who forget risk suffering again. It was also stressed that Republika Srpska will not allow such crimes to be repeated.
The commemoration was attended by the highest officials of Republika Srpska and Serbia, a special envoy of the President of the United States, the Russian ambassador to Bosnia and Herzegovina, ministers, members of parliament, representatives of political parties, diplomats, descendants of surviving Jasenovac inmates, citizens, students, and numerous domestic and foreign media crews.
The most important messages from the gathering were also carried by Russian NTV. Viewers were directed to the segment beginning at the 11:35 mark.
The start of construction of a memorial centre in Donja Gradina was also announced, intended to testify even more strongly to what evil can do when it becomes ideology, and when ideology becomes state policy.
