Banja Luka: Four renowned ensembles to perform at the jazz music festival

Four renowned jazz ensembles will perform at the “Intime Jazz Fest,” which opens tomorrow in Banja Luka.

Mladen Matović, director of the Banski Dvor Cultural Center — the festival’s organizer — said that the event will feature jazz groups well-known on the international scene.

“This year we have also prepared a didactic concert for children to bring jazz music closer to younger generations in a way that is engaging for them,” Matović said.

He noted that the program is designed as a cheerful, interactive workshop, in which children will be guided through music, song, and stories about instruments by Belgrade jazz singer Ljiljana Sađil and a team of renowned musicians.

Matović expressed satisfaction that for the eighth year in a row this festival continues the tradition of presenting representative cultural programs produced by Banski Dvor.

“From the beginning, ‘Intime Jazz Fest’ has been conceived as a chamber jazz festival focusing on smaller ensembles and top soloists of the genre, with formations up to jazz sextets — which this year make up the festival lineup,” Matović explained.

He emphasized that the festival has always attracted great interest and full audiences, playing an increasingly important role in cultivating listeners for this specific musical style.

The festival will open with a performance by the quartet of Srđan Kolarević, one of the most prominent Banja Luka musicians on the international jazz scene.

On Tuesday, 25 November, the didactic concert “Jazz for Children” will be held, while on Wednesday, 26 November, the Marković–Ilić Sextet, one of the leading ensembles on the Serbian jazz scene, will perform.

The festival will conclude with a concert by one of the most exciting quartets on today’s jazz scene, led by Oleg Kireyev and Kit Javors — a collaboration between two major global music forces: the leading Russian saxophonist Kireyev and the exceptional American pianist, arranger, and educator Javors.
