Construction works on the Bijeljina–Brčko section of the motorway will begin on Friday, June 12, acting director of the Public Company Motorways of Republika Srpska, Radovan Višković, announced today.
“According to the signed contract, the construction deadline is three years. The contractor is responsible for preparing the project documentation and carrying out the works, while Motorways of Republika Srpska is responsible for expropriation, which has been completed at approximately 90 percent so far,” Višković told reporters during a ceremony marking the 17th anniversary of the company.
He noted that Motorways of Republika Srpska currently manages 111 kilometres of motorway and that agreements have already been reached for the construction of an additional 112 kilometres.
“Within three to four years, Republika Srpska could have twice as many kilometres of motorways as it has today. When we add numerous important projects currently in preparation, such as the Banja Luka bypass, the motorway towards Mlinište, and the Adriatic-Ionian motorway from Stolac towards Andrijevica, the current investment cycle related to motorway construction in Republika Srpska exceeds 2.5 billion KM,” Višković said.
With additional projects planned over the coming years, he added, the total value of motorway investments is approaching six billion KM, excluding VAT.
Speaking about the Rača–Bijeljina motorway section, Višković said the project should already have been completed had the original contractual deadlines been respected.
“The completion has been delayed by about a year, but work activity on the site has significantly increased. As far as this project is concerned, we do not owe a single convertible mark to any subcontractor or contractor,” Višković stated, adding that the latest information indicates a substantial increase in the pace of construction.
Republika Srpska Minister of Transport and Communications Zoran Stevanović said the goal is to reactivate all motorway construction sites and enable a continuous motorway connection from Prijedor to Rača and further to Belgrade.
Stevanović also expressed hope that construction of the Bijeljina–Zvornik–Konjević Polje expressway, and further towards Sokolac, would be accelerated.
“I would like to see the first section launched and at least the first 50 kilometres completed within the next four years,” Stevanović said.
A ceremony marking the 17th anniversary of Motorways of Republika Srpska was held in Banja Luka today, during which the company presented its new visual identity, including a redesigned logo and official website.
