The city of Trebinje will host the 11th edition of the international Živa Award 2025, an event recognizing excellence in museums and cultural heritage across Slavic countries.
Organized by the Forum of Slavic Cultures and the City of Trebinje, in cooperation with the Museum of Contemporary Art of Republika Srpska, the Museum of Herzegovina in Trebinje, and the European Museum Academy, the event is supported by the Cabinet of the President of Republika Srpska and the Ministry of Education and Culture of Republika Srpska.
The Museum of Herzegovina, last year’s Živa Award winner (2024), will host an accompanying conference titled “Echoes of Heritage and the Future of Museums” from October 8 to 10, featuring over 30 nominated museums and leading museology experts.
The central event, the official Živa Award 2025 ceremony, will take place on Friday, October 10, at 7:00 p.m. at the Cultural Center Trebinje.
The event will gather numerous guests from public and cultural institutions, ambassadors, and museum professionals from Slovenia, Croatia, Serbia, Montenegro, North Macedonia, Bulgaria, the Czech Republic, Poland, Slovakia, and Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Among the keynote speakers at the conference will be renowned names from the field of museology, including Sandro Debon, Robert Zankan, and Alesio Macoloti, who will discuss the future of museums, ecological culture, and innovative approaches to interpreting cultural heritage.
“The Živa Award represents more than a recognition — it is an international platform that promotes cooperation and connection among museum institutions from Slavic countries. It celebrates the diversity of cultural heritage, highlights common roots as well as the unique values of the Slavic world, and fosters dialogue, idea exchange, and joint projects, making culture more visible and accessible to the public,” reads the statement on the official website of the City of Trebinje.
