BiH Presidency adopts budget, Cvijanović outvoted – budget paves way for Schmidt’s anti-Dayton acrobatics

The budget adopted by Chairman Željko Komšić and member Denis Bećirović is so distorted, unprofessional, and reckless that it is obvious it was created by those who have never dealt with a budget, stated the Serb member of the Presidency of BiH, Željka Cvijanović.

“Komšić and Bećirović blocked for months the adoption of the budget submitted by the Council of Ministers, justifying it with various false excuses such as the Viaduct. In doing so, they only created space for Schmidt’s illegal and anti-Dayton acrobatics, and now, with this distorted proposal, they are trying to feign some supposed initiative,” Cvijanović pointed out.

She noted it was interesting that Komšić had refused to support the budget twice this year and also in the previous two years, only to suddenly decide to support it now.

“It is obvious that they are preparing ground for yet another unlawful and unconstitutional intervention by Schmidt, given the impracticability of a budget conceived in this way and its uncertain fate in the BiH Parliamentary Assembly,” Cvijanović stressed.

She argued that the budget is woven with lawlessness and unworkable financial and technical flaws, and the fact that the Deputy Minister of Finance and Treasury praised it only shows his ignorance.

“The proposers of this budget are pretending to be Santa Clauses, arbitrarily and without explanation handing out money to institutions, including those that by law are not even defined as budget beneficiaries. The height of absurdity is that some institutions were given more money than they even requested. In the initial draft, they even forgot to include salary increases for employees in the institutions, and then hurriedly corrected it after Minister Amidžić publicly pointed out their mistake,” Cvijanović said.

That same Minister Amidžić, she added, whom they first shamelessly tried to blame for their own obstructions, and then tasked his ministry with harmonizing and fixing their mess, since they themselves are aware of the impracticability of such a budget.

“Although they initially forgot about salary increases for workers, Bećirović and Komšić did not forget to invent a new 28 million for the Ministry of Defense, so that Helez could implement the announced strengthening of cooperation with the Iranians and their defense industry. Moreover, it is clear that these funds cannot even be spent, given the deadlines and the amounts. All in all, of course I did not want to participate in adopting such a deficient budget, which should be a serious document, not a mere political platform like this one,” Cvijanović stated.

To recall, at today’s session, the BiH Presidency adopted the proposed budget for 2025. Chairman of the Presidency Denis Bećirović and member Željko Komšić voted in favor. Željka Cvijanović voted against.
