Cvijanović: The more Schmidt, the less Bosnia and Herzegovina

The more Christian Schmidt is present, the less there is of Bosnia and Herzegovina and its institutions, said Željka Cvijanović, the Serb member and Chairwoman of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

“Schmidt has not resolved a single issue in Bosnia and Herzegovina, but he has caused many. Now there are reports that he may impose the 2025 state budget, further trampling and discrediting the institutions,” Cvijanović told SRNA when asked to comment on speculations about Schmidt potentially imposing the state budget.

She stated that when Serb representatives refuse to vote for something, they are accused of so-called blockades, but when politicians from Sarajevo refuse to vote—in this case, for the budget—Schmidt steps in, assumes their role, and absolves them of responsibility.

“If Schmidt imposes anything related to the budget, that would mean he is taking over the role of the Council of Ministers, the Presidency, and the Parliamentary Assembly. That would imply that Bosnia and Herzegovina no longer needs any of these three key institutions, and that citizens are paying us, their representatives, for nothing,” Cvijanović pointed out.

If he so blatantly usurps the jurisdiction of the Presidency, she added, then by that logic, Schmidt might as well start attending sessions, receiving credentials from foreign ambassadors, and performing all other duties of that institution.

“Enough with the pretense of democracy. Either the processes in Bosnia and Herzegovina will be led by democratically elected representatives of the people, as in all normal countries, or we should strip everything bare, abolish elections, and officially declare Bosnia and Herzegovina a colonial territory governed by an unelected foreigner. It is high time—perhaps the last moment—for those pushing Bosnia and Herzegovina toward the abyss to finally hit the brakes,” Cvijanović emphasized.
