This year marks the 60th anniversary of the traditional Chinese game Go being played in Banja Luka. A tournament will be held this upcoming weekend to mark the occasion.
Go is China’s national traditional game and a part of its cultural heritage. It originated over 5,000 years ago and has been present in Banja Luka for six decades. Currently, 20 players from the Confucius Institute at the University of Banja Luka are engaged in the game, with the goal of introducing it to the younger population.
“This weekend, the 16th international tournament will take place in Zelenkovac, featuring participants from Bosnia and Herzegovina, Serbia, Croatia, Slovenia, and Austria. We are also planning to organize a tournament in Banja Luka in September,” said Dragan Barišić, president of the Go Association of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
He added that Go is beneficial for developing critical thinking and decision-making skills, making it particularly suitable for children to help stimulate their mental development.
