Republika Srpska acts to preserve the Dayton Agreement

Republika Srpska fully respects the Dayton Peace Agreement and the Constitution of BiH as its integral part, and is merely seeking to restore its constitutional competencies where the BiH Constitution clearly assigns them to the entities, and not to the institutions at the level of BiH, as stated in the 33rd report of Republika Srpska to the UN Security Council.

The document highlights that the authorities of Republika Srpska have responded to unlawful attempts to convict President of Republika Srpska Milorad Dodik and remove him from office by striving to reclaim competencies that were taken from Republika Srpska in violation of the BiH Constitution, often through unlawful decisions and pressures from high representatives.

“Restoring competencies in accordance with the BiH Constitution in no way calls into question the sovereignty, territorial integrity, or constitutional order of BiH. On the contrary, it affirms and protects the clear provisions of the BiH Constitution. Republika Srpska expresses full readiness to engage in sincere dialogue with partners in BiH to end the crisis caused by the repressive actions of Christian Schmidt,” it is emphasized in the fifth section of the Report adopted by the Government of Republika Srpska.

Republika Srpska asserts that the only sustainable solution to the current crisis entails the annulment of Schmidt’s unlawful decisions and the elimination of their legal consequences and harmful effects.

“By nullifying those decisions, as well as the criminal proceedings based on them, conditions would be created for a meaningful dialogue to resolve all key issues, with the aim of restoring the sovereignty and functionality of the country, in full accordance with the BiH Constitution,” the Report states.

It adds that Republika Srpska is firmly committed to peace, supports the Dayton Agreement, and indeed demands its respect, expressing hope that the crisis in BiH will soon be resolved with the support of BiH’s partners from the international community.
