Cinematheque: Next week’s screenings dedicated to Robert Altman

On Monday and Tuesday, March 17 and 18, two films from the rich career of American director Robert Altman will be screened in Pale as part of the Filmoteka program, organized by the Cinematheque of Republika Srpska.

The Cinematheque notes that this year marks the 100th anniversary of the birth of one of the most significant American filmmakers, known for his unique directorial style, improvisation, and deep character exploration.

The first screening, on Monday, March 17, at 8:00 PM, will feature The Player (1992), one of the most acclaimed satires on the film industry.

On Tuesday, March 18, at 8:00 PM, the program continues with Gosford Park (2001).

This film provides a look into British society between the two world wars, exploring class divisions and interpersonal relationships through the details of everyday life.

Gosford Park was highly successful, winning a Golden Globe for Best Director and earning an Academy Award nomination for Best Picture.

Both films showcase Altman’s brilliant ability to use dialogue, characters, and intricate narratives to deliver social commentary—whether on Hollywood or British aristocracy.

Altman was renowned for giving voice to multiple perspectives and characters in his films, creating rich and complex worlds. He left a lasting impact on the film industry, earning numerous accolades, including the Golden Lion at the Venice Film Festival and an Academy Award for Lifetime Achievement.

The Filmoteka program will take place at the Cultural Center Pale, and admission is free for the audience.
