U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio has once again addressed the situation in BiH, but this time with a much softer stance, omitting any mention of the President of Republika Srpska, Milorad Dodik.
In an interview with Voice of America, Rubio touched on BiH again, stating that the U.S. does not support any divisions. This statement comes just three days after a significantly more radical post on the social network X.
- We do not want any divisions in BiH. The last thing BiH needs is another crisis, and we have already made our position clear on that. Regarding possible future actions, we are considering various options, but what is absolutely clear—regardless of any internal differences among us—is that this situation must not lead to the country’s dissolution or a new conflict – Rubio said, responding to a question about the President of Srpska, posed by Voice of America’s chief correspondent, Nike Ching, while aboard a flight.
Notably, Rubio did not mention the President of Srpska in his responses but repeatedly emphasized that the U.S. does not want divisions in BiH.
He further stated that the U.S. is considering different options for resolving the current situation in BiH, but one position remains firm—Bosnia and Herzegovina must not move toward disintegration, nor should a new conflict in the region be allowed.
Rubio’s latest statement for Voice of America comes as a follow-up to his earlier remarks, in which he mentioned Republika Srpska President Milorad Dodik in the context of undermining BiH institutions. That statement triggered a wave of hysteria in Sarajevo.
