Regional discontent with Christian Schmidt is evident

Christian Schmidt, as the High Representative in Bosnia and Herzegovina, is expected to hold a prominent position and bear great responsibility. However, doubts have emerged regarding how he exercises his mandate—specifically, whether his actions align with the intentions of the United Nations and whether his authority was granted in accordance with international procedures.

These concerns must be addressed, particularly regarding Schmidt’s legitimacy and whether he has exceeded his powers, stated Jan Wenzel Schmidt, a Bundestag MP from the Alternative for Germany (AfD), in an interview with Radio Republika Srpska.

A few days ago, Schmidt submitted a formal inquiry to the German Federal Government, requesting a review of Schmidt’s legitimacy in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Awaiting the German Government’s response

Jan Wenzel Schmidt, whose party AfD secured 20% of the vote in the February 23 elections, emphasized that they eagerly await responses from the Federal Government.

Discontent with Christian Schmidt in the region is evident. It is crucial for someone in such a position to act as a mediator among different actors. However, he seems to be failing in that role.

This raises the question: Is he truly fulfilling his duties, respecting his mandate, and applying his powers correctly? Or have the problems arisen due to him exceeding his authority? The Federal Government must provide answers. We remain open to their response, and once we receive written replies, we will draw conclusions and consider further steps,” Schmidt stated.

AfD’s growing political influence

Following the February 23 elections, Alternative for Germany emerged as the second-largest party, trailing behind the Christian Democratic Union (CDU). Although their chances of entering the government remain slim, Jan Wenzel Schmidt is confident that the party will continue to grow in the coming period.

People no longer want Germany to act as the world’s policeman, imposing its culture and ideology on other nations. They want a Germany and a government that refrains from interfering in the internal affairs of other countries, instead acting as a neutral diplomatic mediator,” Schmidt told Radio Srpska.

He also emphasized that AfD’s influence will only increase, particularly in response to CDU’s efforts to prevent collaboration with his party.
