As part of the visual arts program of the 18th edition of the prestigious Kustendorf International Film and Music Festival, a significant meeting point for globally renowned film and music artists, an exhibition of illustrations and caricatures by Јugoslav Vlahović was opened in the “Petar Lubarda” Gallery at the Andrić Institute.
For decades, Vlahović has been one of the most prominent Yugoslav and Serbian caricaturists and illustrators, widely recognized for his role as a long-time editor and illustrator of the weekly magazine NIN.
The exhibition of caricatures and illustrations presented at this event merges the spirit of the hippie movement and theater in a unique synthesis of imagery and ideas.
The exhibition features two thematic sections:
- Flower Power – an homage to the hippie movement, an era that transformed the world through music, art, and ideals of peace.
- Ludus in Fabula – a collection of theatrical caricatures created to mark the centenary of the Serbian Association of Dramatic Artists.
These works capture the grandeur of theater while also exploring the irony and depth of dramatic art.
Vlahović’s creations, rich with sharp messages and deep layers of symbolism, showcase his unparalleled ability to address social, cultural, and political themes through art.
Throughout his prolific career, Vlahović has organized over 80 solo exhibitions, illustrated more than 100 books and comics, and designed iconic album covers for the legendary band Riblja Čorba.
His works are housed in major museums and private collections worldwide, and he has received numerous awards for illustration, caricature, and graphic design.
The exhibition naturally aligns with the spirit of the Kustendorf Festival, celebrating creativity and art by blending visual arts, theatrical illustrations, and caricatures with the thematic expressions of the film and music industries.
