The President of Republika Srpska, Milorad Dodik, shared a video on social media dedicated to the celebration of January 9—Republika Srpska Day, accompanied by the message: “Proud and eternal, our Republika Srpska.”
This year, Republika Srpska marked January 9 and its 33rd anniversary under the slogan “Born for eternity.”
January 9 is celebrated as Republika Srpska Day because, on that date in 1992, it was established under its initial name, the Serb Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
It was founded by Serb representatives in the then-Parliament of Bosnia and Herzegovina after being outvoted on key issues regarding the survival of Yugoslavia. Members of the other two constituent nations initiated secession against the will of the Serbs, who held the status of a constituent people.
