Igokea hosts Mornar: Ending the year with a victory

The basketball team Igokea will play their final match of the calendar year today. In a midday showdown, they will host Mornar in the opening game of the 15th round of the ABA League.

Igokea currently holds seventh place with eight wins and six losses, while their opponent, Mornar, is at the bottom of the standings with just one victory.

The team from Bar is fighting for survival and has the league’s worst defensive record, along with several other weaknesses.

These two teams have faced each other 16 times in the regional league, with the Montenegrin side winning nine matches. However, Igokea has been stronger at home, securing five wins in eight games.

Coach Nenad Stefanović emphasized that his team must avoid underestimating their opponents and approach the game with full focus to secure another win. After being eliminated from the Basketball Champions League, Igokea now has a slightly easier schedule, with three consecutive home games ahead—an opportunity to improve their standings and climb higher on the table.

“I believe we’ve already seen in the ABA League that there are no easy games. Every team is fighting for its position, and for Mornar, every match is practically a fight for survival. We must be aware of that. At the same time, this match is important for us to finish the first part of the season on a positive note. After this, we have three consecutive home games through January, and we want to start a winning streak in front of our fans. I expect the guys to approach the game seriously,” said Stefanović.

Player Vojin Ilić, who is seeing more time on the court, is confident about ending the year on a high note.

“This is our last game of the year, and we want to finish it the right way—with a win. I think that if we show up with the right mindset, energy, and focus, the victory won’t be in question. We need to neutralize their best offensive options and play solid defense, and I’m sure we’ll come out on top,” said Ilić.

The match will tip off at 12:00 PM in Laktaši.

Five days of games
The ABA League has spread out its 15th-round matches over five days. Today’s game between Igokea and Mornar opens the round. The next match is scheduled for Friday at 7:00 PM, featuring Split and Zadar. On Saturday, Borac will face SC Derby at 5:00 PM.
