Acorn coffee presented in Petrovo

At the cultural-tourism event “Ozren Autumn” in Petrovo, over 50 exhibitors from Republika Srpska and the Federation of BiH showcased a variety of products ranging from crafts and art to agricultural and confectionery items. Among these was acorn coffee, known for its benefits for digestion, thyroid health, and circulation.

Vojin Nedić from Sižja near Lukavac, a regular participant at “Ozren Autumn,” introduced acorn coffee this year, in addition to his goat milk products and homemade juices.

Describing the preparation process, Nedić explained that one teaspoon of acorn coffee is added to 150 milliliters of water. Given its slight bitterness, he recommended sweetening it, preferably with honey.

“Acorn coffee is excellent for digestion, thyroid health, and circulation,” said Nedić, adding that acorn flour can also be used in bread-making. He shared that his inspiration to process acorns came from observing goats, which are selective and seek healthy food.

Nedić emphasized that acorns were once a staple in the diet of our ancestors, but have since been forgotten.

Mirjana Dujković from Doboj showcased crocheted bags in various designs and sizes, suitable for any occasion. She mentioned that creating a unique bag takes between three and seven days, and she finds customers primarily through social media. Dujković noted that young people today rarely value handmade crafts and show little interest in learning this useful skill.

Miroslava Jokić from Petrovo displayed traditional folk costumes, stating that it can take up to a month to create a single vest. Despite the hard work, Jokić finds joy in seeing her customers, especially children, proudly wear the garments without shame of their heritage.

The tenth edition of the “Ozren Autumn” festival, held on Trg Nemanjića in Petrovo as part of the celebration of Miholjdan, the local community’s holiday and patron saint day, was opened by Mayor Ozren Petković. He expressed his satisfaction with the variety of offerings and the turnout of exhibitors.

Petković noted that the event featured traditional Ozren products such as honey, rakija, cheese, and handicrafts.

One of the organizers, the local Tourist Organization, represented by its director Slađana Baji, highlighted that the event has regular exhibitors—about 50 of them—coming from areas including Banja Luka, Prijedor, Šamac, Modriča, and Lukavac.

Baji emphasized that such events provide a direct meeting place for agricultural producers and buyers.
