Kovačević: Assessing the Safety of Dodik’s Appearance at the Next Hearing

Serb delegate in the House of Peoples, Radovan Kovačević, emphasized today that the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Srpska and the legal team of the President of the Republika Srpska, Milorad Dodik, will likely assess how safe it is for Dodik to appear at the next hearing in the Court of BiH, given the claims about security risks for the president during his stay in the Federation of BiH.

Regarding Dodik’s security in the Federation of BiH, Kovačević stressed that he believes the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the Police of the Republika Srpska are professional, capable, and competent to provide security for all protected persons, especially the President of Srpska.

“From the territory of the Federation of BiH, a huge number of threats to the security of the President of the Republika Srpska are received daily, and the Ministry of Internal Affairs is the one that is relevant to assess this, which it does,” said Kovačević, adding that there is no one naive enough to think that there are no people in the Federation of BiH who wish harm to Dodik.

Kovačević emphasized that everyone should take these assessments seriously and trust the security agencies’ evaluations.

Speaking about resolving the issue of the seat of the appellate division of the Court of BiH, Kovačević reiterated that the stance of the entire ruling coalition from the Republika Srpska is for the seat to be in Banja Luka.

“Our opinion is simple – if we agreed that an institution should be in the Republika Srpska, then it is logical for us from Srpska to say where it should be,” Kovačević stated for “N1”.

He is confident that this will soon be agreed upon with partners from the Federation of BiH, even though they insist that the seat of the appellate division be in East Sarajevo.

“We have nothing against East Sarajevo, but I think that no one in that city can think for a moment that they are being defended by Edin Forto or Elmedin Konaković,” said Kovačević.

Kovačević also highlighted that representatives of SNSD and parties from the Republika Srpska, who are with them in the parliamentary majority, are ready to come to the Parliamentary Assembly of BiH and vote tomorrow on three laws crucial for the continuation of BiH’s European path.

“These are the laws we are ready to adopt tomorrow, which will ensure that BiH does not end up on the ‘grey list’ of the Moneyval and, most importantly, will ensure the opening of negotiations for EU accession,” said Kovačević, specifying that these are laws on preventing money laundering and financing of terrorism, preventing conflicts of interest, and on the Court of BiH.

According to him, the problem is that whenever there is an internal will in BiH to solve an issue, representatives of the external factor or the opposition appear to dismantle it.

Regarding the promotion of the magazine “Arguments” published by SNSD at the Academy of Sciences and Arts of the Republika Srpska, Kovačević emphasized that it is a scientific magazine, for which a large number of eminent scientists who have no connection with SNSD write.

“Most scientific workers are not politically aligned, and although there are different cases, I do not see any difference among them at our universities,” said Kovačević, citing the example of Jelena Trivić, president of the People’s Front, who works at the University of Banja Luka.

Reminding that SNSD is by far the largest party in BiH and the Republika Srpska, Kovačević stressed that the party’s goal is always to win.

“SNSD is consolidated, strong, united, and ready for big victories this year in the Republika Srpska in the local elections,” Kovačević conveyed.
