Ana Trišić Babić, Director of the Office for International Cooperation of Republika Srpska, welcomed statements by US representative to the United Nations Tammy Bruce and Russian Ambassador to the UN Vasily Nebenzya, expressing confidence that the end of international political supervision in BiH is closer than ever.
“I welcome the message from US representative to the UN Tammy Bruce that domestic leaders should assume responsibility for governing BiH, as well as the position of Russian Ambassador to the UN Vasily Nebenzya that the Office of the High Representative (OHR) should be closed. We believe we are closer than ever to ending international political supervision,” Trišić Babić stated.
Republika Srpska’s institutions have democratic legitimacy
Trišić Babić emphasized that Republika Srpska has exercised democratic responsibility for decades through its institutions, regular election cycles and political pluralism.
She stressed that citizens freely choose their representatives and determine their political future through democratic elections.
“Through elections, its citizens freely decide who will represent them and determine their political future, while the institutions of Republika Srpska possess the legitimacy and capacity to act independently within the competencies guaranteed by the Dayton Peace Agreement,” Trišić Babić wrote on X.
She added that the international community should increasingly recognize the importance of trusting democratically elected institutions rather than maintaining extraordinary supervisory powers.
“This is precisely why we welcome the growing recognition that the success of international engagement should not be measured by the duration of extraordinary powers, but by confidence in democratically elected institutions and their ability to assume full responsibility for political processes,” she emphasized.
Commitment to peace, stability and the Dayton Agreement
Trišić Babić reaffirmed that Republika Srpska remains firmly committed to peace, stability and the consistent implementation of the Dayton Peace Agreement.
Her remarks reflect Republika Srpska’s longstanding position that responsibility for political decision-making in BiH should rest with its democratically elected domestic institutions.
