UN Security Council to discuss situation in BiH today

The United Nations Security Council will hold a session today to discuss the situation in Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH), as part of its regular review of developments in the country, which generally takes place every six months.

According to established practice, the session is expected to begin with consideration of the report submitted by the Office of the High Representative (OHR).

The OHR has confirmed that Acting High Representative Louis Crishock will not attend the meeting, although the institution’s report has been submitted to the Security Council.

Republika Srpska submits its report to the UN Security Council

Members of the Security Council will also receive the report of the Government of Republika Srpska, which regularly submits its assessments in its capacity as a signatory to the Dayton Peace Agreement.

The Government’s report emphasizes that Republika Srpska and its leadership remain firmly committed to the Dayton Peace Agreement, peace and stability.

According to the document, Republika Srpska seeks nothing beyond the consistent implementation of the agreement and the constitutional framework it established.

Government raises concerns over property rights and development projects

The report also highlights what the Government of Republika Srpska describes as violations of the rights of BiH’s constituent peoples.

Particular attention is given to procedures conducted by the authorities of the Federation of BiH concerning the harmonization of land registry records.

According to the Government, these procedures are being used to deprive the Serbian Orthodox Church of property rights it has held for centuries.

The report further accuses Bosniak political parties of deliberately obstructing the economic development of Republika Srpska through prolonged blockades of major infrastructure projects.

Among the projects specifically mentioned are the planned Buk Bijela Hydroelectric Power Plant and Trebinje Airport, both of which the Government considers important for the economic development of Republika Srpska.
