Stevandić: Republika Srpska must remain vigilant after jihadist threats sent to parliament

President of the National Assembly of Republika Srpska Nenad Stevandić has warned that Republika Srpska must remain vigilant after parliament received a threatening message calling for jihad and violence against Christians and their children.

Stevandić confirmed that the relevant authorities had been immediately notified and that the Ministry of the Interior of Republika Srpska would investigate the threats.

“We immediately involved the competent institutions of Republika Srpska, and the Ministry of the Interior will do its job. We all feel safe and protected, considering that this is one of a series of threatening messages,” Stevandić said.

Threatening message allegedly inspired by ISIS ideology

Stevandić stated that the message appeared to be inspired by jihadist ideology and the terrorist organization Islamic State (ISIS).

He emphasized that such threats demonstrate the importance of maintaining vigilance and ensuring the security of Republika Srpska’s institutions and citizens.

According to Stevandić, the individual responsible for the message appeared to be mentally unstable, but he warned that people expressing extremist views could still carry out terrorist attacks.

He said the threatening message explicitly called for the killing of Christians and their children, allegedly in defense of the rights of those described in the message as the “princes of Islam.”

Stevandić expects condemnation from Bosniak political representatives

Stevandić expressed confidence that reasonable members of the Bosniak community and their political representatives would condemn the threats.

“I do not believe there is a single rational person among Bosniaks or Bosniak politicians who would fail to condemn this or agree with it. However, we need to investigate what leads people to develop such ideas,” Stevandić said.

Threats delivered to the National Assembly

The threatening messages were delivered to the registry office of the National Assembly of Republika Srpska.

According to the reported contents, the messages called for jihad, the mutilation of baptized children and the killing of baptized citizens.

The sender, who identified himself as a member of “jihad in BiH,” demanded that all necessary conditions be provided for what he described as the “functioning of jihad in the city of Prijedor and throughout Islamic BiH.”

The threats have been referred to the competent authorities of Republika Srpska.
