Serb member of the Presidency of BiH Željka Cvijanović has emphasized that the National Assembly was the first institution to lay the foundations for the establishment and political development of Republika Srpska.
“The decisions adopted 35 years ago reflected the political will of the Serb people to determine their own future. Since then, the National Assembly has remained the institution where the interests of Republika Srpska and its citizens are protected and defended,” Cvijanović wrote on the social media platform X.
Expressing confidence that the Assembly will continue fulfilling this role in the years and decades ahead, Cvijanović congratulated National Assembly President Nenad Stevandić and all members of parliament on the 35th anniversary of the institution’s establishment.
The National Assembly of Republika Srpska, the highest constitutional and legislative body in Republika Srpska and the central institution of its parliamentary system, was established on October 24, 1991, under its original name, the Assembly of the Serb People in BiH.
