The establishment of the National Assembly of Republika Srpska 35 years ago was a historic act and one of the most important steps in the Serb people’s struggle to preserve their identity, rights and freedom, according to Mlađen Cicović, Head of the Republika Srpska Representative Office in Serbia.
“Both then and today, the Serb people have chosen to respect the Constitution, uphold the rule of law and support an orderly system in which decisions are made in accordance with the law, rather than through imposed measures and legal or constitutional violations,” Cicović stated.
He emphasized that since its establishment, the National Assembly has remained a defender of the rights and freedoms of the Serb people, as well as the constitutional position and political status of Republika Srpska.
Cicović calls for consistent implementation of the Dayton Agreement
“This anniversary is also an opportunity to once again call on everyone in BiH to return to the consistent implementation of what was agreed upon and signed, above all the Constitution of BiH, which forms Annex IV of the Dayton Peace Agreement,” Cicović said.
According to him, stability, mutual trust and a sustainable future for BiH can only be achieved through respect for the Constitution and the rules established by mutual agreement.
The National Assembly of Republika Srpska, the highest constitutional and legislative body within Republika Srpska’s institutional structure and the central institution of its parliamentary system, was established on October 24, 1991, in Sarajevo, originally under the name Assembly of the Serb People in BiH.
