A captain of the Armed Forces of BiH was arrested in Novi Travnik on October 14 after police discovered suspected illegal drugs during a search of his apartment. The following day, military police reportedly found a hand grenade in an office at the Rajlovac military facility, according to information obtained by ATV.
The officer, identified by the initials A. S., is reportedly a Bosniak member of the Armed Forces of BiH Tactical Support Brigade.
According to ATV sources close to the Armed Forces, police discovered approximately 100 grams of substances suspected to be cannabis and cocaine, along with a precision digital scale, during a search of the officer’s private property.
Police confirm discovery of suspected drugs
The Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Central Bosnia Canton confirmed that the search was conducted on October 14, 2026, between 6:40 p.m. and 7:25 p.m., at an apartment on Mehmed Spahe Street in Novi Travnik.
Police officers from the narcotics enforcement teams of the Travnik Police Administration and Novi Travnik Police Station carried out the operation with the approval of the Cantonal Prosecutor’s Office in Travnik and under a written warrant issued by the Municipal Court in Travnik.
“During the search, officers discovered a quantity of plant material whose appearance and morphological characteristics resembled the narcotic drug cannabis, as well as a quantity of white powder whose appearance and packaging resembled the narcotic drug cocaine. A digital precision scale was also found,” the ministry stated.
The apartment was reportedly used by A. S., born in 1994 and residing in Novi Travnik.
Hand grenade reportedly discovered at Rajlovac military facility
According to ATV, members of the Military Police inspected an official room at the Rajlovac military facility the day after the arrest.
During the inspection, they reportedly discovered a hand grenade identified as the “Geneva” model.
Although subsequent information suggested that the grenade was nonfunctional and contained no explosive charge, sources close to the Armed Forces of BiH disputed that explanation.
They claimed that the particular model had been manufactured exclusively as a combat weapon.
Questions raised over handling of the incident
ATV sources also alleged that attempts had been made to prevent information about the grenade’s discovery inside the military facility from becoming public.
These allegations have not been independently confirmed.
The incident raises questions about how the grenade came to be stored in an official Armed Forces of BiH office and whether the relevant authorities have taken all legally required measures.
Further clarification from the competent military and judicial institutions is needed to establish the circumstances surrounding the discovery and determine whether any additional violations occurred.
