With eight goals to his name, Danilo Teodorović currently ranks second on the BiH Premier League’s top scorers list. Although Radnik Bijeljina are struggling near the bottom of the standings, the 24-year-old striker has plenty of reasons to be satisfied with his individual performances this season.
The Banja Luka-born forward has been one of the league’s most in-form players, contributing eight goals and one assist. Of Radnik’s 16 league goals, Teodorović has scored exactly half.
“Every striker is happy to see that many goals next to his name. The team suits me, as does the playing style introduced by the coaching staff led by coach Krulj. I’m making the most of the opportunities I get in front of goal,” Teodorović told RTRS.
“What particularly pleases me is my overall play. I think I’m performing very well in that respect, contributing to the team, and I believe I can maintain this level,” he added.
Radnik aiming to climb the Premier League standings
Despite Teodorović’s impressive form, Radnik have collected just eight points and currently occupy ninth place in the standings.
The Bijeljina side have often performed better than their results suggest, with several matches decided by narrow margins and missed opportunities.
“We are currently ninth, and naturally, neither the players nor anyone at the club is happy about that. Especially because we have shown in most matches that we are capable of much more,” Teodorović explained.
He believes the three-week international break helped the team regain its rhythm, as demonstrated by their recent victory over Željezničar and draw against Sarajevo.
“Those two matches should serve as a benchmark for the performances we want to continue producing. Taking four points against two Sarajevo teams is no small achievement. In the next round, we travel to face Zrinjski, where we will try to secure a positive result,” he said.
Teodorović reflects on dramatic draw against Sarajevo
Radnik came close to securing another important victory against Sarajevo after taking a 1–0 lead and creating several promising opportunities.
However, the visitors equalized in the 88th minute and nearly completed a comeback when Elezi struck the crossbar during stoppage time.
“It was a turbulent match, much like our entire season, and it could have gone either way. The same happened in our first-round meeting at Koševo,” Teodorović recalled.
“There were plenty of good opportunities for both teams. We held the lead for half an hour before conceding late on. I think Sarajevo deserved their goal to some extent, so overall, the draw was probably the fairest result,” he added.
New signings strengthen Radnik’s ambitions
Radnik have recently strengthened their squad with the arrival of Romanian midfielder Luca Mihai, who can operate in several positions, and the return of experienced defender Miladin Stevanović.
Teodorović believes the team’s quality is considerably greater than its current league position suggests.
“Looking at the players we have, we definitely deserve much more. There are only a few points separating fourth and ninth place in the table. If we can put together two or three consecutive victories, we could quickly find ourselves in the upper half of the standings,” he said.
“I don’t think that is impossible or unrealistic,” the former Voždovac striker emphasized.
Captaincy and improved fitness behind strong performances
Teodorović struggled with injuries last season, preventing him from finding consistent form. However, a successful summer preparation period has helped him return to his best.
In addition to his goalscoring responsibilities, he also wears the captain’s armband, a role he has held since the second half of last season.
“I’ve been captain since the second half of last season. It’s certainly a significant honor, especially because I came to the club from elsewhere, so to speak. Before me, the captains were players from Bijeljina,” he explained.
“I earned that responsibility through hard work and dedication, and I try to justify the trust placed in me on the pitch. It isn’t difficult to carry that responsibility because the club has assembled a group of excellent players, both in the dressing room and on the field,” Teodorović said.
Teodorović praises new ten-team Premier League format
Now in his third season with Radnik, Teodorović believes the BiH Premier League has improved in quality following the introduction of the ten-team format.
“I think the league has become stronger. There are many more interesting matches and derbies. The schedule is demanding, especially with the BiH Cup and Republika Srpska Cup as well,” he said.
“The Premier League definitely has quality, as demonstrated by Borac and Zrinjski, who have played in the UEFA Conference League over the past two or three seasons and delivered some very good performances,” he added.
Ambitions to continue career abroad
Teodorović’s goalscoring performances have not gone unnoticed, and the striker admits that playing abroad remains one of his career ambitions.
“My good performances have attracted attention. I still have a contract with Radnik, so the club also has an important say in any potential transfer,” he explained.
“My goal is to move abroad and test myself there. We’ll see whether that happens this winter or next summer. I’m in no rush,” Teodorović said.
The 24-year-old began his football career at Željezničar Sport Team before spending six months in Red Star Belgrade’s youth system.
He later played for Voždovac and is now in his third season representing Radnik Bijeljina, where he has established himself as one of the BiH Premier League’s leading goalscorers.
