Following presentations in Belgrade, Banja Luka and several cities in Montenegro, the exhibition “Sacred Sites of St. Petersburg” has opened in Trebinje.
The exhibition, organized by Miodrag Miša Branković and hosted by the Museum of Herzegovina, features photographs printed on canvas depicting two of the most monumental religious landmarks of the renowned Russian city.
Visitors can see 26 photographs by prominent Russian photographers featuring motifs from St. Isaac’s Cathedral and the Church of the Savior on Spilled Blood, two of St. Petersburg’s most recognizable landmarks.
“These are photographs by local authors taken over a period of several years, which means the sites are presented during different seasons,” exhibition organizer Miodrag Miša Branković said.
The exhibition is the result of cooperation with Russian museums and follows an earlier exhibition in Russia featuring various Serbian sacred sites.
“This exhibition is a response to the project presenting the sacred sites of Serbia organized by Miša Branković,” said Ilya Demidov, director of the Savior on Spilled Blood Museum in St. Petersburg.
Ivana Grujić, director of the Museum of Herzegovina, said hosting the exhibition was a great honor for the institution.
“We believe it is a great honor to present a Russian museum here for the first time and to have the opportunity to see these beautiful motifs that we cannot experience in person,” Grujić said.
The photographs have been printed on artists’ canvas, giving them a distinctive appearance. Visitors to the Museum of Herzegovina will be able to see the exhibition over the next month.
The exhibition was organized through cooperation between the State Museum of St. Isaac’s Cathedral, the City of Trebinje and the Museum of Herzegovina.
