Legal expert Ognjen Tadić stated that hostile rhetoric from political representatives in Sarajevo and their supporters toward Republika Srpska, the Serbian people, and Banja Luka is not a new phenomenon but a long-standing pattern that periodically intensifies. He argued that addressing this problem is the responsibility of the international community, Muslim religious leaders, and Bosniak political representatives.
According to Tadić, the recent surge in hostile public statements and social media commentary following the death of former Army of Republika Srpska commander General Ratko Mladić is only the latest example of a trend that has persisted for decades.
“This is a constant that we have, unfortunately, become accustomed to. It is only when the intensity increases, as it has in recent days, that it draws greater public attention,” Tadić said.
He argued that Republika Srpska and the Serbian people must recognize what he described as a continuing rejection of the Dayton Peace Agreement by political actors in Sarajevo.
“In my view, political Sarajevo has never accepted the Dayton Peace Agreement and remains opposed to everything associated with it, including the existence of Republika Srpska and the equality of Bosnia and Herzegovina’s three constituent peoples,” Tadić stated.
He further claimed that this hostility cannot be resolved by institutions in Banja Luka.
“Banja Luka cannot cure this problem. Those who must address it are the international actors, Muslim religious leaders, and Bosniak political leaders, because they are the ones who, in my opinion, helped create and sustain it for their own interests,” Tadić concluded.
