Branimir Kojić, President of the Organization of Families of Captured and Fallen Soldiers and Missing Civilians of Srebrenica, has criticized the lack of answers from the relevant institutions regarding the prison status of Elfeta Veseli, who was convicted of the murder of 12-year-old Slobodan Stojanović.
Kojić questioned whether Veseli is even serving her prison sentence, arguing that the public has still not been informed who is responsible for what he described as her privileged treatment while in custody.
“The question is whether she is even in prison, because we have no confidence in the institutions of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina responsible for overseeing the execution of her sentence,” Kojić said.
He argued that authorities should have been able to clarify the matter quickly, but instead, responsibility has been passed between institutions without any definitive response.
Kojić further stated that those responsible for supervising the execution of Veseli’s sentence should be held accountable if reports of preferential treatment prove accurate.
He also said that Republika Srpska would continue seeking answers regarding the case and called for greater transparency from the relevant institutions.
Elfeta Veseli was sentenced to 13 years in prison for the murder of Slobodan Stojanović, a 12-year-old boy killed in the summer of 1992 near Zvornik after returning to his village to retrieve his dog.
Following years as a fugitive, Veseli was arrested in Switzerland in September 2016, extradited to Bosnia and Herzegovina in March 2017, and is serving her sentence in Tuzla Prison.
