Marko Romić, Secretary to the President of Republika Srpska, said that the proposal to return foreign members to the Commission to Preserve National Monuments represents a serious violation of the spirit of the Dayton Peace Agreement.
Romić said the move was not surprising, arguing that it reflects what he described as a long-standing pattern of undermining the Dayton framework in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
“In every provision of the Dayton agreement and its annexes, the presence of foreign actors was defined as temporary, time-limited and primarily linked to the immediate post-war period. Instead of initiating the departure of foreign judges from the Constitutional Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina and bringing the mandate of the Office of the High Representative to an end, proposals like this take Bosnia and Herzegovina a step backwards and further reinforce its already evident colonial status,” Romić wrote in a post on X.
Serb member of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina Željka Cvijanović has submitted a veto against the decision on appointing members to the Commission to Preserve National Monuments, declaring it destructive to the vital national interest of Republika Srpska after it was adopted at a Presidency session without a quorum.
