Simić: Germany, Britain and France are doing everything to drag Serbs into a disastrous Euro-Atlantic adventure

Germany, the United Kingdom and France are doing everything they can to weaken SNSD and install in power those Serb politicians who, in cooperation with irresponsible politicians in Sarajevo, would drag the Serb people in Bosnia and Herzegovina into a disastrous Euro-Atlantic adventure, says Pero Simić, adviser to SNSD leader Milorad Dodik.

“The citizens of Republika Srpska will certainly not allow that. The sovereignty of Republika Srpska and the protection of national interests are deeply rooted in their hearts. At the same time, they pragmatically understand that the path toward a better future for Republika Srpska, as well as the Serb people as a whole, is paved through cooperation with Russia, China, the United States, and European countries,” Simić wrote in an opinion piece for Politika.

In the article titled “Irrational British-German Hostility Toward Russia,” Simić argues that Serbs, like Russians, do not seek conflict but are forced to defend their countries, while remaining open to cooperation with other nations that act in good faith.

According to him, the sooner citizens of leading EU countries and the United Kingdom actively realize that a policy of peace and comprehensive cooperation across Europe, including good relations with Russia, is the only way for their countries to regain strength, the sooner they will do something beneficial for themselves and future generations.

“When I say ‘actively realize,’ I mean being ready to turn ideas into action and fight for responsible leaders who will not lead their nations into disaster merely to preserve their own positions, but who will act in accordance with national interests,” Simić stated.

He recalled that former British Prime Minister Winston Churchill, despite being an ideological and geopolitical opponent of the Soviet Union, understood British interests when World War II began and, as a responsible statesman, supported “even Red Moscow” after Nazi Germany launched its invasion in 1941.

According to Simić, Churchill overcame personal prejudices and passions in the interest of his country and acted rationally from a military and political standpoint.

“Unlike him, today’s British, German and much of the European political elite act irrationally and selfishly. Europe, both the EU and countries outside it such as the United Kingdom, is losing the global economic and technological race,” Simić said.

He argues that close cooperation with Russia, which could provide affordable energy and other resources, is the only way to slow or reverse that decline. Instead, leading European states have spent more than a decade confronting Moscow.

Simić claims that Washington drew Europe into an eastward campaign in 2014, with Ukraine serving as a stepping stone toward Moscow, causing relations with Russia to deteriorate sharply.

“Once the United States realized that the Russian Federation could not be broken, it quietly began withdrawing from the adventure it had launched. This became possible after changes within the American administration. In Europe, however, such a shift has not truly occurred,” he wrote.

He added that in most European countries, power remains in the hands of extreme Euro-Atlantic political circles, ideological successors of those who made the mistake of entering into confrontation with Russia.

The ruling elites in London, Paris and Berlin, he said, continue pursuing counterproductive anti-Russian policies because they do not want to admit responsibility for the decline of European economies and living standards.

“They cannot stop and turn a new page, a page of peace and mutually beneficial cooperation, because citizens would logically ask: ‘Why do we still need you if you now admit that you led us not through hardship to success, but into a cliff?’” Simić wrote.

He noted that the 85th anniversary of Nazi Germany’s invasion of the Soviet Union arrives at a time when former enemies, London and Berlin, are united as leading promoters of anti-Russian policies in Europe and beyond, despite the fact that such policies bring no benefit to their own nations.

“Instead of addressing severe economic and demographic problems, inadequate leaders are preparing military forces for a potential war with Russia, a conflict from which they could never emerge victorious and which would represent a tragedy for the entire world,” Simić said.

He further argued that these leaders are not only leading their own countries toward decline, but are also trying to pull others into what he described as a sinking ship and use them as cannon fodder.

“That brings us to Republika Srpska, where elections will be held in October. Germany, the United Kingdom and France are doing everything possible to weaken Dodik’s SNSD and install those Serbs who, together with irresponsible politicians in Sarajevo, would drag the Serb people in Bosnia and Herzegovina into a disastrous Euro-Atlantic adventure,” Simić stated.

He stressed that the 85th anniversary of the beginning of the bloodiest phase of World War II should remind all well-intentioned people where the decisions of reckless leaders can lead.

“No one in Europe, from London to Berlin, needs that. It is high time to abandon the policy of aggressively provoking Russia and generating dangerous tensions. The time has come for peace and development,” Simić said.

Quoting a Latin expression, he added: “A word to the wise is enough.” However, he lamented that wise people currently do not lead the United Kingdom, France or Germany.

He expressed hope that this situation would soon change.

“Perhaps the British cannot find a new Winston Churchill, nor the Germans someone comparable to Willy Brandt. But they do not have to allow themselves to be led by today’s political Lilliputians who lack ideas and any sense of national responsibility,” Simić concluded.
