Serb member of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina Željka Cvijanović said she strongly supports the decision of the Ministry of Interior of Republika Srpska to increase security measures due to the potential spillover of the crisis caused by escalating violence in the Middle East.
“We are taking this situation very seriously, especially considering that the U.S. Central Intelligence Agency announced in August last year that Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (Quds) is operating in Bosnia and Herzegovina,” Cvijanović wrote in a post on the social network X.
She added that in recent months there has been a rise and numerous public manifestations of antisemitism in the Federation of BiH, which were condemned, among others, by officials of the United States Department of State and representatives of the Israel.
Cvijanović emphasized that additional caution is warranted given the history of terrorist attacks worldwide and in Bosnia and Herzegovina involving its citizens, as well as the links of a number of individuals from BiH to terrorist groups such as the Islamic State and Al-Qaeda.
“For all of the above reasons, I consider the preventive measures taken by our police to be fully justified, with the aim of protecting the security of all citizens of Republika Srpska, their property, and public institutions,” Cvijanović concluded.
