Čavić: We must protect international law to defend Republika Srpska

The process against the President of Republika Srpska is a purely political persecution and has nothing to do with a criminal offense. Such practices by the imposed and illegitimate High Representative Christian Schmidt must end, and the only way to stop this scenario is for us in Republika Srpska to definitively state that we do not accept violations of international acts and human rights, said Dragan Čavić, former President and Senator of Republika Srpska.

Appearing on RTRS Morning Program, Čavić emphasized that the current situation in BiH is unacceptable and heading in the wrong direction.

  • The issue of the High Representative’s role must be stopped. Annex 10 of the Dayton Peace Agreement should be concluded. The mandate of the High Representative must not be extended as it contradicts international norms. This means that in the National Assembly, we can pass a resolution rejecting any role of the High Representative. We must protect international law to protect ourselves, Čavić said.

He stressed that even after 30 years since the war, BiH has a person with the rights of a legislative body, which is contrary to international law.

The Constitution of BiH states that international regulations are an integral part of the constitution, even if they are not explicitly listed, Čavić added.

Čavić points out that the procedure against President Milorad Dodik serves as a warning for everyone else.

  • Tomorrow, Schmidt will create an environment and carry out extensive preparations before leaving, including passing the law on state property. I ask, who will refuse to implement such a law? Those in power tomorrow will either comply with the High Representative’s decision or face criminal charges, Čavić said.

He emphasized that the only way to stop this scenario is to definitively state that Republika Srpska does not accept violations of international acts, as human rights violations are unacceptable.
