The EU Delegation to BiH has responded to a letter sent late last week by Republika Srpska Prime Minister Radovan Višković to the head of the Delegation, Johann Sattler’s deputy, Luigi Soreca. However, the response failed to provide any clear or concrete answers to the Government’s specific questions regarding the payment of debt under the arbitration decision in favor of “Viaduct” and the procurement of equipment for the upcoming elections in BiH.
“The EU Delegation’s reply focused solely on the need to procure equipment for the upcoming elections in BiH, even though the Government of Republika Srpska had stated in its letter that this equipment is the lowest priority for citizens,” it was stated on the official website of the Government of Srpska.
Moreover, the Government emphasized that the EU Delegation did not provide a single answer regarding the suspicious financial transactions and payments made to offshore companies located in the Channel Islands, whose owners remain unknown.
“Apparently, it does not bother them that the flow of this money cannot be tracked. The response received contains no facts, no arguments, and none of the requested information,” the Government of Srpska said.
They added that the EU Delegation appears primarily concerned with the procurement of the mentioned election equipment—even though, in some European countries, such equipment was purchased but later discontinued.
“It seems the EU Delegation in BiH is most interested in ensuring that such equipment is purchased in BiH—and, of course, paid for handsomely,” the statement reads.
The Government of Republika Srpska expressed regret that no meaningful response was provided—one that would contain actual arguments, facts, or answers to their questions.
“Such responses insult the citizens of Republika Srpska, who have every right to accurate and verifiable information regarding both the ‘Viaduct’ case and the procurement of equipment for the electoral process,” the statement continued.
The Government further stressed that it is incomprehensible that the EU Delegation either refuses, is unable, or does not know how to respond to clear and specific inquiries.
“Likewise, it appears unproblematic to the EU Delegation in BiH that funds for ‘Viaduct’ are to be paid into accounts belonging to offshore companies based in the Channel Islands, without knowing who owns those companies, and without fulfilling any of the procedures and formalities necessary to ensure transparency in such transactions,” the Government of Republika Srpska concluded.
