Following yesterday’s decision by the Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina to accept the Prosecutor’s Office’s proposal to revoke the detention order for Republika Srpska President Milorad Dodik—thereby also annulling the arrest warrant—numerous reactions have emerged from Republika Srpska, along with the key question: Can law and justice be restored in the BiH judiciary?
Legal expert Ognjen Tadić stated that no one should question why Dodik, clearly recognizing the right moment, wisely used legal arguments to expose the absurdity of the detention and warrant.
“Especially not those who hoped he would be detained and are now disappointed. Participants in the political witch hunt, who are now questioning political consistency, should have known from the outset that by politicizing the judiciary, they legitimized political maneuvers by those defending themselves against political persecution,” Tadić told SRNA.
Staša Košarac, Deputy Chair of the Council of Ministers, said that freeing Dodik from political persecution was the only logical and just move after a disgraceful setup and judicial-political game aimed at removing the president of Srpska from the political scene and endangering his freedom and life.
“Milorad Dodik was personally targeted because his policies are the bulwark of Republika Srpska. If they weaken him, they weaken Srpska—fulfilling their political dream of a unitary and centralized BiH,” Košarac stated.
When asked by SRNA to comment on accusations made by SDS President Milan Miličević against Dodik, SNSD spokesperson Radovan Kovačević responded that he would refrain from commenting, noting that today is a Day of Mourning in Republika Srpska.
“Still, I must say—while I can somewhat understand the Sarajevo trio, as they are indifferent to Serb victims, I cannot understand or justify the ‘trio’ from Republika Srpska. Today is a Day of Mourning in Srpska, and that should be respected. Srpska does not forget,” said Kovačević.
SNSD MP in the House of Representatives of the Parliamentary Assembly of BiH, Milorad Kojić, told SRNA that the Court’s decision was the only legally correct and possible one.
According to him, everything that happened in recent months was part of a broader attempt by political Sarajevo to use the judiciary to suppress political opponents within BiH.
To recall, the detention was revoked because it was determined that the reasons for which it had been originally imposed no longer exist.
The Court of BiH had previously ordered one-month detention for President Milorad Dodik on suspicion of committing the alleged criminal offense of “undermining the constitutional order.”
