Russian Embassy: Republika Srpska’s actions are a logical response to the systemic undermining of Dayton

Russia expresses understanding for the steps taken by Republika Srpska to preserve its Dayton status and competencies, which are being considered and established through constitutional and democratic procedures. These actions are a logical reaction to the continuous systemic undermining of the Dayton Agreement by Christian Schmidt and his Western mentors, the Embassy of the Russian Federation in Bosnia and Herzegovina stated.

The Embassy emphasized that the actions of the illegitimate Schmidt are the main cause of the crisis in BiH and expressed support for the position of the Republika Srpska leadership, which does not recognize him.

In the statement, the Russian Embassy in BiH expressed hope that all political officials in the country will show responsibility, wisdom, and patience, and initiate an important dialogue in the interest of all citizens—with the aim of strengthening the true sovereignty and independence of BiH.

The Embassy also pointed out that numerous proposals by Republika Srpska representatives for constructive dialogue on pressing issues have gone unanswered—even by ruling coalition partners, whose composition is increasingly shaped not by the will of voters but through procedural maneuvers.

The statement underscores that Russia considers the judicial verdict and law enforcement actions taken against the highest leadership of Republika Srpska to have caused acute political destabilization, with serious consequences for the further implementation of the Dayton Agreement—which remains the foundation of the peace process in BiH.

“Russia considers the trial against Republika Srpska President Milorad Dodik politically motivated. The non-final verdict aims to halt Dodik’s political activity, despite the fact that he was elected to that position by the will of the majority of Republika Srpska citizens,” the Embassy stated.

As a guarantor of the Peace Agreement, Russia called on all sides in BiH to abandon the dangerous practice of labeling their political opponents as “enemies of the state and the people” and to begin seeking mutually acceptable solutions—based not on abstract pseudo-legal interpretations but on real interests, taking into account the current circumstances in both BiH and the world.

The Embassy of the Russian Federation in BiH warned that blindly pushing narrow approaches will only lead to unnecessary confrontation and jeopardize peace and stability in BiH.

It concluded by noting that the current crisis is the most serious since the signing of the Peace Agreement and expressed deep concern over the worsening political situation in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
