The Director of the Serbian Government’s Office for Public and Cultural Diplomacy, Arnaud Gouillon, stated that the situation of Serbs from Krajina and Kosovo and Metohija is very difficult due to numerous administrative issues, discrimination, and violence.
“Serbs from Krajina and Kosovo share the same martyred fate. They are resilient and brave because they have endured so much during and after the wars,” Gouillon emphasized in a statement for SRNA.
He recalled that the period from 1997 to 1998 was a challenging time for Serbs in Krajina, noting that the then mayor of Drvar, who was of Serb ethnicity, was beaten.
“However, Serbs from Krajina decided to return and remain in their homes under such circumstances. This demonstrated their immense courage and resilience, the same kind I have witnessed among the Serb people in Kosovo and Metohija,” Gouillon said.
He highlighted the importance of the culture of remembrance.
“It is important to pass on to our children what the Serbian people have endured. The history of the people in Krajina, just like in Kosovo, has been martyred, but it has given the Serb people the strength to never surrender,” Gouillon stated.
He stressed that he has only seen such courage and strength in the Serb people, who do not give up even in the most difficult moments.
