The 41st International Theater Meetings have started in Brčko, and will continue until October 25, when the best play, authors, and actors will be announced.
Eight theater productions from Serbia, Croatia, North Macedonia, and Bosnia and Herzegovina are competing in the festival.
The festival opened with the play “Žena Himna” by Davor Špišić, directed by Robert Raponja.
This international project is a co-production of Teatar Fort Forno from Bale, theaters in Pula and Mostar, and the Intermeco association from Sarajevo. The drama is based on the life of Paula Preradović, the author of the Austrian anthem and granddaughter of the poet Petar Preradović.
The play is notable for the fact that all roles are played by women.
“I play both the mother and father of Paula Preradović, and this is a very interesting concept by the author of the text, Davor Špišić, who wanted a single actress to portray both the mother and father, representing both male and female principles,” said actress Selma Alispahić.
Eight theater productions are competing in the International Theater Meetings.
“This year, I decided to focus on individuals, on prominent figures in the profession who, through their work and influence, contribute to keeping theater alive and well,” emphasized Goran Damjanac, the selector of the International Theater Meetings.
Tonight’s program features “Kuća” by Nebojša Ilić, directed by Vojislav Brajović. The audience can look forward to a chamber drama with elements of fantasy, performed by Branimir Brstina, Nebojša Ilić, and Ivana Zečević.
