Serb member of the BiH Presidency, Željka Cvijanović, stated in Telering that Republika Srpska will have an appropriate response if Christian Schmidt imposes the property law, though it is too early to discuss the details.
Cvijanović emphasized that it would be beneficial for BiH if Schmidt, as a foreigner, refrains from interfering and does not usurp the authority of democratically elected institutions.
“If he truly had BiH’s best interests at heart, he would likely take a different approach, as would those advising and encouraging him to act this way. But I don’t believe he has BiH’s best interests in mind, despite the stories and phrases he spreads,” Cvijanović said.
She argued that it is unacceptable for the future of BiH to allow a foreigner to disrupt the internal affairs of democratically elected institutions and to be given the power to resolve issues.
“The world is indeed a battleground—politically, geopolitically, and financially—but I believe we should cultivate an awareness that the healthiest path for BiH and its future is to respect the decisions of those leading its institutions,” Cvijanović added.
She also pointed out that foreign interference in domestic political affairs, targeting democratically and legally elected leaders, is detrimental and it is abnormal for foreigners to dictate what domestic leaders can or cannot do.
“What’s the point of elections if this illegal Christian Schmidt or whoever came before him intervenes? For me, it’s normal to sit with my colleague, whether they are Serb, Croat, Bosniak, Italian, or Ukrainian living in Srpska. If we want to solve issues together without imposition, then we’ve solved them. Our goal should be to avoid leaving unresolved issues for future generations, as they have often resurfaced and brought negative consequences,” Cvijanović stated.
