The audience of the National Theater of Republika Srpska will have the opportunity to enjoy three plays directed by this famous theater director as part of the “Days of Jagoš Marković” event from April 5 to 7 this year. In memory of the prematurely deceased director, the event will be opened on April 5 by the play “Glass Neck”, produced by the Yugoslav Drama Theater, April 6 is reserved for the play “The Bald Singer” by the Tivat Culture Center, while this mini-festival will close with ” Hilarious tragedy” co-produced by the National Theater in Belgrade and the National Theater of the RS – April 7.

“The days of Jagoš Marković” are a joy for the actors, numerous artists, and most of all for the Banja Luka audience, said the director of the National Theater of the Republika Srpska, Dijana Grbić.

“Today, although it is a sad occasion, we are proud to be the hosts and organizers of the mini-festival dedicated to the prematurely deceased Jagoš Marković, who was talked about a lot in the last few months, but not enough.” I would like to thank the company m:tel for the selfless support and support of the National Theater of the Republika Srpska, Ms. Jelena Trivan, for enabling this theater to work on the play signed by Jagoš Marković and thus enter his large family, and for the partnership and support that ‘Dani Jagoša’ Marković’ held in Banja Luka. In the period from April 5 to 7, we will celebrate theater exactly as Jagoš celebrated it. He celebrated life through the theater, but also the theater through life,” emphasized Grbićeva.

The company m:tel is part of all important cultural events. As a proud patron of many cultural, sports, educational and all other manifestations, m:tel is a long-time friend of the National Theater of Srpska, including the upcoming “Days of Jagoš Marković” in Banja Luka.

The general director of the m:tel company, Jelena Trivan, said that this is the first festival in the territory of the former Yugoslavia that is held in honor of Jagoš Marković, although he directed throughout the region. “The reason for this is that before his death, Jagoš Marković wished to direct at the National Theater of Republika Srpska, delighted with the acting ensemble. This is how the play ‘Hilarious Tragedy’ was created in co-production with the National Theater in Belgrade, thanks to m:tel. Thus, the Banja Luka theater entered the map of the largest theaters directed by Jagoš Marković, and now the first theater where plays by Jagoš Marković from three countries will be played, again at the initiative of m:tel and the National Theater of Srpska. Of course, all of this wouldn’t have happened if this theater wasn’t really one of the most prestigious in the region, and that’s why I belatedly congratulate it with the Order of Happiness, which they received from the President of Serbia,” said Trivan.

Marković was one of the most prominent theater directors in the region. He directed his first play as a prodigy when he was nine years old, with the wholehearted support of his then theater “mentor” Vanja Popović. Already at the age of sixteen, he came to Belgrade, enrolled in directing at the Faculty of Dramatic Arts, where he graduated in the class of prof. Borjana Prodanović and Svetozar Rapajića. In the National Theater in Belgrade, of which he has been the permanent director since 2008, Jagoš Marković has directed, according to the unwritten rule of long-running plays, the most important titles of world and domestic classics.

Tickets for performances within the “Day of Jagoš Marković” will be on sale from March 21, at the ticket office of the National Theater of Republika Srpska.
