A consortium from Saudi Arabia will build a solar power plant in Bijeljina worth 70 million euros

Today in Banja Luka, the Prime Minister of the Republika Srpska, Radovan Višković, signed a memorandum with the Masko group from Saudi Arabia for the solar power plant project in Bijeljina.

  • This is one of the initial steps in the cooperation between Srpska and this group. To embark on significantly larger projects related to road infrastructure and some projects such as using hydrogen as a fuel for heavy machinery – Višković said.

Višković mentioned that the Masko group is already implementing a large facility for extracting hydrogen from oil and water in Saudi Arabia and has chosen the Republika Srpska as an investment destination due to its favorable business environment.

We have discussed with our friends and offered that the Republika Srpska, in the future, could be a destination for supplying the European market with hydrogen from Saudi Arabia – Višković stated, adding that hydrogen is the fuel of the future.

He also mentioned discussions with representatives of this group about projects related to Corridor 5C and the Banja Luka bypass, as well as the topic of reconstructing the low-voltage network in the Republika Srpska in relation to distribution companies.

The authorized representative of the Masko group, Rade Đorđević, expressed his expectation that the power plant, valued at around 70 million euros, could be built and connected to the network in about three years.

Đorđević emphasized that the Republika Srpska is absolutely open to foreign investments and that the tax policy, as well as the complete legal regulation, is extremely favorable for investors.

The 60-megawatt solar power plant in Bijeljina will be built on land owned by the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republika Srpska.

The signing of the memorandum was also attended by the Minister of Energy and Mining of the Republika Srpska, Petar Đokić.
