The President of the Republika Srpska, Milorad Dodik, conveyed that O’Brien’s speech in Sarajevo is a demonstration of arrogance and a lack of ideas.
“While he speaks about the sovereignty of Bosnia and Herzegovina, his support for a self-proclaimed leader is a direct negation of sovereignty. How did a powerful America end up in these waters? The world is in the turmoil of conflicts, boiling in every part of the planet, and the U.S. Secretary of State is dealing with Bosnian gas, his assistant Sabija, the ambassador with respirators, and businessmen about work. In addition, Ramo Isak appears as a diplomatic giant next to them. Even the surrealists could not have imagined this,” Dodik wrote on the social media platform X.
Dodik emphasizes that O’Brien talks about friendship with the peoples of Bosnia and Herzegovina but treats those same people as wild hordes from the Stone Age to whom he will bring fire.
“Every American administration has been dedicated to the situation and relations in Bosnia and Herzegovina, but only this one is evidently interested in worsening that situation and disrupting relations. Former U.S. Ambassador to Bosnia and Herzegovina, Thomas Miller, once said, ‘Even the worst agreement of domestic politicians is better because it’s an agreement, not an imposition.’ Today, diplomats come to us trying to break such agreements, negating and belittling them,” Dodik stated.
Dodik emphasizes that the agreement reached aims to satisfy the citizens of Bosnia and Herzegovina, to make their lives better, to move towards EU membership, and not to satisfy O’Brien.
“The Dayton Agreement is a great success of the then U.S. administration. The Republic of Srpska pursues a policy of respecting the Dayton Agreement. It is paradoxical that we defend an American success from American diplomats. I have the sovereign decision of the citizens of the Republic of Srpska to elect me to be the president. I swore to respect the Constitution and laws. I will give my heart, word, and life only to my people and the Republic of Srpska. I am here to respect their will and to negotiate with representatives of the other two nations, respecting their interests. I am here for the Republika Srpska to be a partner to all but a subject to none,” Dodik said.
