“The Ledana Cave, situated on the southern slopes of Mount Bobija in the municipality of Ribnik, represents an exceptionally significant speleological feature in Republika Srpska.
This cave stands out not only for its size but also for the attractiveness of the discovered ice formations.
With its depth of 72 meters, the Ledana Cave takes the breath away from any explorer who dares to step into its underground world.
The entrance shaft leads to an impressive horizontal gallery, making it unique in its structure.
The cave channels span a length of 180 meters, providing observers with the opportunity to explore the richness of this natural wonder.
The Ledana Cave is not only the largest ice cave in Republika Srpska but also stands out as one of the largest in all of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
The substantial ice mass within the cave is formed by layers of ice of varying thicknesses, creating enchanting hills reaching up to 15 meters in height.
It’s interesting to note that the boulders found at the cave entrance were once used by the local population to extract ice before the advent of modern refrigeration devices.
This cave, with its unique characteristics and story, is now under the protection of the Institute for the Protection of Cultural-Historical and Natural Heritage of Republika Srpska, categorizing it as a natural good of the III category.
