President Milorad Dodik’s visit to the United States has once again brought attention to Republika Srpska’s international position and its relations with Washington.
Participation in a conference associated with the MAGA movement, announced meetings with US congressmen and senators, and contacts with individuals close to Donald Trump’s administration are part of efforts to ensure that Republika Srpska participates directly in discussions about its political future.
Marko Romić, Secretary-General of the President of Republika Srpska, believes the visit is important for the Serb people and that Republika Srpska can expect positive developments from the new US administration, opening the door to a different approach from Washington toward the political situation in BiH.
Romić: Washington is now willing to hear Republika Srpska’s position
“When it comes to Milorad Dodik, we are talking about an experienced politician who visited the White House at a time when no one else from this region had done so. Dodik knows how the political landscape is shaped there.
“Republika Srpska now has an opportunity to make its voice heard clearly and loudly. Previously, America pursued a one-sided policy that did not allow the actual situation to be presented. Now the situation is completely different. Not only are we allowed to present our side, but what we think also matters,” Romić said on RTRS’s morning program.
He emphasized that influential figures are attending the conference and that every visit Dodik makes to the United States is significant for Republika Srpska.
“There are numerous examples showing that when Dodik visits the United States, there is a response and major developments follow,” Romić said.
MAGA movement and traditional values
Romić also argued that the principles associated with the MAGA movement have been reflected in SNSD policies for more than 20 years.
“We need to understand that we in Republika Srpska have our own Parliament and Government, and we have maintained this institutional framework over the past 20 years.
“The efficiency with which authorities are formed here cannot be seen in the Federation of BiH. Republika Srpska respects its neighbors, but we do not receive the same treatment from the Federation.
“That is why the United States is a more important factor in BiH than any European country. The MAGA movement is present in our everyday lives because we value and preserve traditional values,” Romić said.
Opportunities for investment and cooperation with US companies
According to Romić, Dodik’s visit to the United States is important in several areas.
“The fact that he was invited shows that Republika Srpska is entering a circle of countries whose opinions matter and which have the right to be present.
“On the other hand, Dodik’s visit will bring multiple benefits related to future projects that the United States will implement in our region,” Romić stated.
He added that opportunities for cooperation in various sectors have already been announced.
“These are realistic opportunities because we represent an attractive environment for investment.
“Unlike other countries that want to remain within the European Union framework and are unwilling to open up to American partners, Republika Srpska offers a favorable investment environment.
“Numerous projects are already underway, particularly in the energy sector. There are investment opportunities and prospects for future cooperation everywhere,” Romić said.
Romić: Democratic victories in US elections should not cause concern
Romić also commented on the Democrats’ electoral victories, saying they should not be a cause for concern for Republika Srpska.
“We must understand that America has its own domestic political life, with Republicans and Democrats alternating in power.
“The will of the voters must be respected, but Republika Srpska is a strategic partner of the United States, and we will continue to strengthen our position even further,” Romić concluded.
