Exhibition marking 200 years of Matica Srpska opens at Academy Gallery in Banja Luka

The exhibition “Mat(r)ica for Two Centuries of Jubilee,” by artist Danilo Vuksanović, has opened at the Gallery of the Academy of Sciences and Arts of Republika Srpska in Banja Luka, marking the 200th anniversary of the founding of Matica Srpska.

Combining historical heritage with contemporary artistic expression, the exhibition highlights the institution’s importance in preserving the cultural identity of the Serb people.

Historical heritage meets contemporary art

The exhibition brings together past and present by combining original printing plates from the collection of the Gallery of Matica Srpska with contemporary artworks by Danilo Vuksanović.

Historical motifs are given new artistic interpretations, offering visitors a different perspective on cultural heritage.

In the year marking Matica Srpska’s bicentenary, the exhibition takes on additional significance, highlighting the institution’s two-century contribution to the development of Serbian culture, art and national identity.

Strengthening cultural ties across the Drina

Matica Srpska plays an exceptionally important role in connecting the Serbian cultural sphere on both sides of the Drina River.

Cooperation with institutions such as the Academy of Sciences and Arts of Republika Srpska further strengthens cultural ties and joint efforts to preserve national heritage.

The exhibition will remain open until the end of December.
