Deputy Chairman of the Council of Ministers of BiH Staša Košarac has stated that Bosnia and Herzegovina has no future under continued foreign interference, emphasizing that the only viable approach is to establish genuine sovereignty in political decision-making.
Commenting on the UN Security Council debate on the situation in BiH, Košarac strongly criticized the role of international representatives and foreign judges in the country’s institutions.
He described both legitimately and illegitimately appointed High Representatives as a serious obstacle to BiH’s political development, arguing that the country cannot have a stable future while foreign judges continue to serve on its Constitutional Court.
“What is the point of having authorities at the BiH level if part of the political structure constantly runs into the arms of foreigners?” Košarac told reporters in Bijeljina.
Košarac: OHR should have been closed long ago
Košarac reiterated his position that the Office of the High Representative (OHR) has long outlived its purpose in BiH.
He argued that Republika Srpska is the only political entity within BiH that consistently exercises sovereignty through its constitutionally established institutions.
“Only Republika Srpska adopts its regulations in accordance with the Constitution and has authorities elected in accordance with the Constitution,” Košarac stated.
He contrasted this with the political situation in the Federation of BiH, claiming that its government was formed following an intervention by Christian Schmidt, whom he described as an illegitimate High Representative.
Košarac also argued that institutions at the BiH level are failing to function effectively.
Republika Srpska as an example of constitutional sovereignty
Košarac emphasized that Republika Srpska could provide what he described as the best lesson in sovereignty to political representatives throughout BiH.
“Republika Srpska can teach everyone in BiH the best lesson about sovereignty,” he stated.
He criticized political actors who publicly advocate sovereignty while, in his view, relying on foreign intervention and supporting exclusively Bosniak political interests.
“Even those who invoke sovereignty in a virtual and false manner, while simultaneously placing themselves exclusively at the service of Bosniak interests in BiH, could learn that lesson. We remain united around the institutions of Republika Srpska and their constitutional authority,” Košarac said.
He reiterated that BiH’s political future should be based on domestic decision-making, constitutional institutions and the ability of elected representatives to exercise their responsibilities without external interference.
