Karan condemns offensive graffiti targeting Serbs in East Sarajevo, calls for legal action

Republika Srpska President Siniša Karan has strongly condemned the offensive inscription “genocidaši” (“genocide perpetrators”) written on a mural depicting the Serb tricolor in East Sarajevo, describing it as a serious insult to the Serb people, their history, dignity and national identity.

In a statement to Srna, Karan denounced the act of vandalism, emphasizing that it directly insults the Serb people and the feelings of Republika Srpska citizens.

“The Serb people are a freedom-loving people who, during the most difficult periods of history, made enormous sacrifices in the struggle against occupation, fascism and oppression. That is why this act of vandalism is not only deeply offensive but also unjust toward their history and sacrifices,” Karan stated.

Authorities urged to identify those responsible

Karan called on the relevant institutions to investigate the incident without delay, establish all the circumstances, identify those responsible and take the measures prescribed by law.

“The Serb people do not deny anyone the right to their identity, but neither will they accept the humiliation of their name, history and tradition of fighting for freedom,” he emphasized.

“The Serb tricolor is a symbol of our pride, freedom and endurance, and no one’s hatred expressed through an offensive inscription can desecrate its colors,” Karan added.

Peace and stability must remain priorities

The Republika Srpska president stressed that peace, stability and mutual respect have no alternative.

He warned that those whose actions seek to raise tensions must be aware of the responsibility that such behavior carries.
