The “Branko Ćopić Comic Stories” exhibition organized by the Republika Srpska National and University Library opened on September 23 in the reading room of the Radoje Domanović National Library in Leskovac.
The event also featured a presentation of the “Comic Stories” edition published by the Republika Srpska National and University Library.
The exhibition was organized as part of the “Distances That Connect: Twin Cities in Dialogue” initiative, included in the “Serbian Capital of Culture 2026” program.
Vesna Ilić, director of the Radoje Domanović National Library in Leskovac, and Ljilja Petrović Zečić, director of the Republika Srpska National and University Library, addressed the opening ceremony, emphasizing the importance of cultural ties, the preservation of literary heritage and cooperation between twin cities.
The exhibition was officially opened by Leskovac City Council member Brankica Stamenković, who highlighted the importance of such projects in enriching the cultural life of Leskovac as this year’s Serbian Capital of Culture.
The Republika Srpska National and University Library launched its “Comic Stories” project in 2017 with the aim of presenting classics of Serbian literature to younger generations through contemporary visual media.
Following comic adaptations of works by Petar Kočić, Aleksa Šantić and Stefan Mitrov Ljubiša, an edition dedicated to Branko Ćopić was published last year to mark the 110th anniversary of the writer’s birth.
The adaptation and illustrations were created by Milan Mladić and Predrag Ikonić.
Publications from the series have already been translated into several major world languages, including French, Greek, German, Russian, English and Chinese.
The “Comic Stories” project has previously been successfully presented across Republika Srpska, Serbia and Europe, including exhibitions and presentations in Belgrade, St. Petersburg and Paris.
