The meeting between Serb member of the BiH Presidency Željka Cvijanović and Susie Wiles, a close adviser to U.S. President Donald Trump, in Washington represents a major success for Republika Srpska at a particularly challenging time, Acting Director of the Republika Srpska Office for International Cooperation Ana Trišić Babić said.
“This is a success in turbulent times that are more challenging than at any point since World War II. It is a major achievement and recognition for Cvijanović, as well as recognition for SNSD,” Trišić Babić told ATV.
She said this comes at a time when Republika Srpska is positioning itself internationally, noting that its leadership is simultaneously engaged in visits to Washington and Israel, while a visit to the Russian Federation is also being prepared.
Trišić Babić recalled that at the same time last year, senior Republika Srpska officials were under sanctions, adding that their political opponents had expected Republika Srpska and its leadership to be significantly weakened.
“We proved them wrong through our work, perseverance and persistence,” Trišić Babić said, thanking the citizens of Republika Srpska who, she said, continued to place their trust in them.
Commenting on the address by Chairman of the BiH Presidency Denis Bećirović at the UN General Assembly in New York, which she said was delivered without consensus within the BiH Presidency, Trišić Babić argued that such consensus has effectively been absent from the Presidency for the past 20 years.
“That is why the leadership of Republika Srpska decided to speak out boldly and make clear that Republika Srpska has a voice and that it should be heard,” Trišić Babić said.
Cvijanović met with Wiles at the White House in Washington on Monday, where they discussed the situation in BiH and the wider region.
