The actions taken by Sarajevo demonstrate how important it is to have one’s own freedom and autonomy, said Ana Trišić Babić, Acting Director of the Republika Srpska Office for International Cooperation.
Trišić Babić was responding to claims by BiH Foreign Minister Elmedin Konaković that a request for the overflight of the aircraft that was supposed to bring Serbian Prime Minister Đuro Macut to Banja Luka for the Day of Serb Unity, Freedom and the National Flag had been submitted only minutes before the planned departure.
She argued that political Sarajevo’s objective is a unitary and centralized BiH.
“They do not want a Dayton-based BiH, and they do not want Republika Srpska. Elmedin Konaković’s move to prevent the Serbian prime minister’s flight is no surprise to us in Republika Srpska. We do not respond to such things. Republika Srpska was created through blood and sacrifice, it has endured for 30 years, and it will endure for another 30, and another 30 after that,” Trišić Babić said on the program Drugi ugao.
She emphasized the importance of a people having its own flag, traditions and identity.
“There is nothing more beautiful than for a people to have its own flag, tradition and identity,” she said.
Trišić Babić added that such unity must be defended in peacetime, just as the position of Republika Srpska is, in her words, firmly embedded in the Dayton Peace Agreement.
“I do not know of any people who live freedom the way our people do. Defending freedom is literally an everyday task – preserving our institutions and protecting our interests,” Trišić Babić said.
