Today marks 25 years since the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks, a day that changed not only the United States but the entire world, said Ana Trišić Babić, Acting Director of the Office for International Cooperation of Republika Srpska.
“We remember the nearly 3,000 innocent victims of the terrorist attacks and pay our respects to their families and to the American people. For us Serbs, the fight against terrorism is not something we began learning about only after September 11. We confronted radical Islamism, the ideology of hatred and the crimes it produces here in this region as early as the 1990s, when the Serb people fought against what they regarded as such an evil and paid a heavy price,” Trišić Babić wrote on X.
She emphasized that, at the time, the Serb voice was not sufficiently heard.
“It took decades before many facts began to be discussed more openly, which is why it is important that today we speak clearly about our own experience and in our own voice,” she said.
Trišić Babić added that this experience gives Serbs a deep understanding of what the American people and the United States went through on September 11.
“That is why, on this day when we remember the victims of September 11, we have a deep understanding of what the American people and the United States went through. There is no justification for terrorism, and there must be no double standards or forgotten victims in the fight against it,” Trišić Babić concluded.
