The majority of the Czech public supports Serbia and Republika Srpska and understands what happened during the wars of the 1990s, Czech journalist Radim Panenka told RTRS after arriving in Belgrade to pay tribute to General Ratko Mladić.
Panenka said that Western propaganda remains strong in the Czech Republic.
“But that is against the interests of the Czech Republic,” Panenka said.
He recalled writing a short piece about General Mladić following his death.
“That was how I said goodbye to the general. I have known General Mladić’s son Darko for more than 10 years. For me, this is also personal. Darko is a great friend of mine,” Panenka said.
Panenka also expressed hope that the International Residual Mechanism for Criminal Tribunals in The Hague would face scrutiny over its treatment of Mladić.
“There must be consequences for their decisions. The family requested that he receive treatment in Serbia and that the general spend his final days in Serbia with his family. They violated everything. But I hope there will be an investigation, even though they have some form of immunity,” Panenka said.
